The many uses of iconic photos
Photos by: Debbie Stock
If you believe that your pictures of California beaches are
exceptional, there’s potential to expand the circle of those who may
see your images. In the picture above, I took the three sunset
pictures of a surfer walking in front of Huntington Beach Pier at
Sunset, a downtown Huntington Beach water fountain, and a sunset
picture with a fanning palm at Huntington Beach Pier. The photos
were reviewed among many of my pictures and selected for use on a
Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa check in folder in which
guests’ room keys are placed. Artwork of a woodie on the beach was
one section of the folder, and my pictures were set in a soothing
blue color similar to ocean water, providing a background for them
and verbiage about the destination. This is an interesting
application or use of photographs, though not unfamiliar to me as a
professional photographer. My photos of other destinations — Big
Bear Lake, Pismo Beach, San Diego, etc. — have been used in hotel
and resort brochures. The pictures usually capture some scenic
element of the destination, evoking a great mood.
